Toast bread slices, as desired. Spread avocado on bread slices. On each bottom half, layer cheese and basil, folding to fit. Top with sunny-side-up egg. Add pepper, as desired. Place top half of bread slice slightly to the side, cut side down. Garnish with shallot.
